The Bobcats couldn’t overcome a six-run inning as Tarleton State shocked Texas State in a 6-5 defeat for the ‘Cats.

Texas State falls to 13-8 while Tarleton State improves to 16-7.

“We came out on fire, but as I just told them, you can't go 5-0 then put five zeros on the board. That's not going to work either,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said. “
So we let them get the momentum and we never got it back. Then we made a crucial base running mistake in the bottom of the sixth, ended up giving them and letting them keep the momentum.”

In the bottom of the second inning, Aiyana Coleman scored the first run of the game, blasted a solo home run into left field, putting the Bobcats up 1-0.

Back to back RBI fielder’s choices by Syndey Harvey and Keely Williams put two more on the board for the Bobcats before Harley Vestal hit an RBI single to make it a 4-0 game.

Megan Kelnar added another run in the bottom of the third inning with an infield single.

Tarleton State found their way onto the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run RBI single, cutting the Bobcats lead down to 5-2.

The Texans later took the lead on a grand slam as the Bobcats found themselves trailing 6-5.

The Bobcats had a scoring opportunity with runners on second and third with no outs but a base running mistake at third on an infield fielder’s choice allowed Tarleton to get the first out before the Texans got out of the inning unscathed.

Texas State then fell in order in the bottom of the seventh as the Texans held on to the win.

Texas State will be back in play Friday against Tarleton before playing Texas A&M.
