San Marcos fell in their district road game to New Braunfels Canyon, losing 16-5 to the Cougars.
The Rattlers fall to 811 overall and 1-2 in district play, while Canyon improves to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in district play.
San Marcos found themselves in a massive deficit, trailing 14-0 going into the fourth inning.
In the Rattlers at-bat, San Marcos loaded up bases before scoring on a Canyon error.
San Marcos scored again on another Cougars error before A’Kyia Spillers connected with a bases-clearing RBI double, scoring three runs and making it a 14-5 game.
But the Cougars tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to trigger the run rule and hand the Rattlers the 165 loss.
San Marcos returns to play next Tuesday on the road against Schertz Clemens. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
