Game sets new attendance record at Bobcat Ballpark with 3,482 fans
In front of the largest crowd in the history of Bobcat Ballpark, Texas State was unable to keep up with the No. 2ranked Texas Longhorns, falling 15-4.
The Bobcats drop to 12-4 overall while the Longhorns maintain their perfect record at 16-0. The teams played in front of 3,482 in attendance, setting a new record at Bobcat Ballpark.
“We just didn’t play well,” Steven Trout said. “You don’t play well against any team, you probably get beat. You don’t play well against the No. 2-ranked team in the country that’s undefeated, you get really beat. So it’s very very simple, we didn’t play well tonight so the job is to show up tomorrow, get better and store this feeling.
“We’ll get those guys back in a couple weeks in their ballpark and hopefully by the time we get there, we’re a better baseball team.”
The Longhorns struck first in the top of the first, hitting an RBI single up the middle to take the early 1-0 lead.
Texas later tacked on another run in the same inning after a basesloaded walk.
The Longhorns later added to their lead with a three-run home run, extending the Bobcat deficit to 5-0.
Texas extended the lead to 7-0, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the fourth.
While the game seemingly was heading towards a run-rule shutout, sophomore Dawson Park had other ideas.
With runners on first and second, Park connected with a three-run home run, his fourth of the season, to make it a 7-3 game.
The Longhorns added on another run in the top of the seventh with a solo home run into left field, making it 8-3.
In the next at-bat, Rashawn Galloway cut into the deficit with an RBI double, making it an 8-4 game.
Texas then tacked on another run with an RBI double, extending their lead to 9-4.
The Longhorns then added another three more runs on two RBI doubles and an RBI single, making it a 12-4 game.
Texas tacked on more runs in the top of the ninth with a three-run homer, making it a 15-4 lead.

Following the loss against Texas, Trout talked about the need to rebound from the tough defeat and focus on finding a way to improve.
“You use it as motivation, right?” Trout said. “We wake up tomorrow and find a way to get the Bobcats better. That’s what we always do.
“Anytime when you get beat, you have to learn from it, and you have to use it as motivation. You definitely have to learn from it, find a way to show up tomorrow, and obviously tomorrow’s the day we have to come out and get better.”
ULM enters the game with a 9-9 overall record coming off a weekend series loss to the UT-Arlington Mavericks.
First pitch for Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Friday in Monroe.
