KZSM — Everyone Is Welcome to Rock Thursday Nights!

KZSM consistently celebrates the vibrant San Marcos music scene, with live in-studio performances by local and touring musicians and of course the San Marcos Music Awards. One of our newest shows, “Backstage Tracks” (8-10 p.m. Thursdays, is the creation of Todd Landrum, who has long been part of the San Marcos music scene. He has provided bass and vocals for Enemy of Mankind, ISS, Midnight Files, and other bands.

The show grew out of his experience. “The name, ‘Backstage Tracks,’ comes from me being a musician, hanging out with musicians and being part of the San Marcos scene for several decades,” he explains. “After rehearsal, after a show, or at home by yourself…what do you want to jam to?”

Todd features music from his formative years, the late 80s to the mid 90s, often offering an alternative to the usual top 40 playlists. “I feel fortunate to have grown up during two ‘musical revolutions’ or changes in the musical landscape, the LA scene and the Seattle scene,” he recalls.

He showcases live performances. “I love a good record, but, what I want to hear is what the band really sounds like! And that’s…live!” He plans to feature a variety of performances throughout the history of rock, from Paul Simon to Pink Floyd to Peter Gabriel to Pearl Jam to Pantera. “And that’s just a few of the P’s,” he adds.

Creating playlists for the show is pure joy. “I’m having a blast!” He might create a couple of alternate playlists and then choose the one that fits his mood on show night. When he has a guest, the show revolves around them. “The guests that are on the show are San Marcos staples--people who radiate Central Texas!” Recent shows have featured Michael Harrison and Cameron Elise, with more guests to follow.

This week’s show will feature a trip back to 1992 to celebrate the sometimes disastrous US tour by Guns N Roses, Metallica, and Faith No More, which generated a riot in Montreal, among other problems. Todd will play live tracks from the bands on the tour. Tune in to 104.1/KZSM.org Thursday to revisit that memorable tour without waiting hours for the performers to appear!

The host invites you, wherever you’re coming from. “In general, I’m playing music for people from my era. But, music is universal and the language of life. Everyone is welcome to rock!”
