TXST BASEBALL

Texas State’s conference opening series started in disaster as the Bobcats were swept by the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks, losing 16-5 in the final game of the three-game series.

The Bobcats fall to 127 overall and 0-3 in conference play. Texas State lost Game 1 12-6 before losing Game 2 8-5.

In Game 3 last Sunday, the Warhawks scored eight runs in the first inning before the Bobcats could answer.

Texas State scored their first run on a RBI single by freshman Jackson Cotton RBI in the top of the third inning. After ULM answered back with another run, Cotton struck again for the Bobcats, hitting an RBI double. Sophomore Dawson Park followed up Cotton with an RBI single, making it a 9-3 game.

The Warhawks answered back once more with a three-run bottom of the fifth inning, extending their lead to 123.

Sophomore Ethan Farris hit his first career home run in the top of the sixth while ULM responded with an RBI double. Park hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh but the Warhawks scored three runs in the seventh to end the game via the run-rule.

The Bobcats will look to snap their four-game losing streak on the road when Texas State faces No. 14-ranked Texas A&M. The Aggies are coming off a series loss to Oklahoma last weekend.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. in College Station.
