The bats were flying high in Houston as Texas State defeated the Cougars 12-8 in an offensive slugfest between the two teams.
The Bobcats improve to 19-9 while Houston falls to 17-13.
Texas State fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first after a two-run home run by the Cougars.
But in the next at bat, the Bobcats rallied in a big way.
Junior Kate Bubela tied the game with one swing, hitting a two-run home run before senior Keely Williams gave Texas State its first lead of the game at 3-2 on an RBI single.
Later in the at bat, senior Karmyn Bass connected with a two-run RBI single before freshman Harley Vestal hit her first collegiate home run, scoring three runs and gave the Bobcats an 8-2 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Houston cut into the Bobcats’ lead by hitting a grand slam, making it an 8-6 game.
In the top of the sixth inning, Texas State added to its lead when Williams hit a solo home run. Later in the same at bat, senior Aiyana Coleman hit a three-run home run, pushing the Bobcats’ lead to 12-6.
Houston made its comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring on a solo home run followed by a Bobcat error.
But the Bobcats rallied and stopped the Cougars’ comeback hopes to secure the 12-8 win.
Texas State continued its five-game road trip Wednesday against Lamar, with the game starting before the Daily Record’s time of press. The Cardinals enter the game with a 13-15 overall record.
