Life Scout project seeks to create grave markers for SM veterans

Eben Smith, a Life Scout with Troop 112, is leading an Eagle Scout project to honor veterans at the San Marcos Cemetery. Smith is organizing the design and fabrication of over 1,000 veteran grave markers, which will also serve as flag holders during Memorial Day and Wreaths Across America ceremonies.

The sturdy metallic markers will ensure that American flags placed on the graves remain clean and off the ground, preserving their dignity. More importantly, they will help the scouts of Troop 112 identify veteran graves, ensuring no grave is missed during these ceremonies.

“This project is about respecting the service and sacrifices of our veterans,” said Smith. “These markers will guarantee that each grave is properly honored and that flags are treated with the respect they deserve.”

Smith is seeking donations to cover the cost of materials and fabrication. He is extremely grateful for the support of the Kissing Tree Veterans, Lion’s Club, and family members that have already collectively contributed almost $6000 toward the project total cost of $10,000.

Smith is now asking the San Marcos community to consider donating to his Eagle Scout project which he hopes to complete before Memorial Day.

Contributions will directly support the project and help the community pay tribute to its veterans. Donations can be made directly via Zelle to “Scouts Troop 112”, Venmo to “SMTX112”.
