Texas State hosts No. 1-ranked Texas Wednesday
Texas State dropped their conference series to the rival Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, falling in the third game on Sunday 6-1.
The loss drops the Bobcats’ overall record to 20-12 and their conference record to 3-3. The Cajuns improve to 1913 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Texas State scored first, scoring their lone run of the game on a Katarina Zarate solo home run in the top of the second inning, putting the Bobcats up 1-0.
The Cajuns did their damage in the third inning, tying the game on a fielder’s choice. The Cajuns later took the lead on a three-run home run before scoring another on a RBI infield single as the Bobcats trailed 5-1.
The Cajuns tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on an RBI bunt to make the final score 6-1.
Texas State won Game 2 of the series 4-2 on Saturday after the Bobcats scored four unanswered runs through the first four innings.
In Game 1 on Friday, the Cajuns outlasted the Bobcats 2-1 in pitcher’s duel after scoring the game winning run on an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.
Texas State returns to play Wednesday as the Bobcats host the No. 1ranked and defending national champions Texas Longhorns.
The Longhorns are coming off a two-game sweep of Baylor and enter the week on a 27game winning streak. Texas is 28-1 for the year with their lone loss coming against Nebraska.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
