Bobcats drop Game 2 to Marshall

The Bobcats fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd, losing Game 2 2-1 as the three-game series was evened up. 

Texas State falls to 21-14 overall and 4-4 in conference play while Marshall improves to 24-10 and 5-3 in conference play. 

“We just didn't make adjustments that we needed to,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said. “That was the bottom line of that. We never made adjustments to figure out how to get above the ball.”

Following a scoreless first four innings, the Thundering Herd scored first on a leadoff home run to take the early 1-0 lead. Later in the at-bat with runners on second and third. Marshall added another run on a sacrifice fly while Texas State turned two on the flyout catch by centerfielder Sidney Harvey before making the throw to third to catch the runner tagging up. 

In the bottom of the sixth, Sydney Harvey reached base on a single then reached second while beating the throw from center field to. Aiyana Coleman brought Harvey home on an RBI single in left field, cutting Marshall’s lead to 2-1. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Kate Bubela kept the Bobcats hopes alive with a one-out double. 

But Marshall ended the game on consecutive strikeouts as the Thundering Herd came away with the victory. 

The Bobcats managed only four hits on the day with Sidney Harvey leading the charge going 2-2 from the plate with one walk. 

The rubber match is set for 10 a.m. Sunday at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
