The Bobcats were unable to rally from an early two-run deficit through the first two innings as Texas State fell to Marshall 2-1, dropping the three-game conference series.

Texas State falls to 21-15 overall and 4-5 in conference play while Marshall improves to 25-10 and 7-2 in conference play.

“I thought we battled [but] we just didn't make adjustments,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said.
”We just talked about it. We have to be better disciplined at the plate. It doesn't do any good to swing at pitches that you shouldn't be swinging at.
So we just need some more discipline at the plate.”

Marshall scored first, hitting a solo home run in the top of the first, taking the early 1-0 lead.

Later in the second inning, the Thundering Herd scored again on an RBI single as Texas State found themselves trailing 2-0 after two innings.

The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the third with runners on second and third with two outs as Keely Williams hit an infield RBI single.

Texas State threaten to score in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second with two outs but were unable to bring the runners home as the Thundering Herd claimed both the win and the series.

After getting 12 hits against Marshall on Friday, the Bobcat offense cooled off, managing just four hits against the Thundering Herd on Saturday then just three hits on Sunday along with scoring a combined two runs in both games.

Though Woodard was proud of her team for staying in both games, she still wants to see better from her club.

“I thought we competed,” Woodard said. “We kept ourselves in every ball game and gave ourselves a chance to win.
That's a good Marshall club. They did what they needed to do offensively, did a good job pitching, hitting spots and keeping us off balance. I don't have a positive or a negative from the weekend.
We just have to be better.”

Texas State will start a four-game road trip this week, starting with their mid-week game against archrival UTSA.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at UTSA.
