Head Coach Ricci Woodard captured her 900th win as Texas State defeated arch-rival UTSA 8-1.
Woodard is just the second coach in the history of Texas State Athletics to have won 900 career games, following former Bobcat volleyball head coach Karen Chisum.
The Bobcats improve to 22-15 for the season while UTSA falls to 1919.
Texas State scored first in the top of the first when senior Keely Williams hit a solo home run in right field to put the Bobcats up 1-0.
UTSA tied the game in the bottom of the second, scoring on an RBI groundout.
In the top of the third, senior Aiyana Coleman crushed a two-run home run in left field, giving Texas State the lead back at 3-1.
Later in the fourth, senior Sami Hood reached first base on a UTSA error which allowed junior Kate Bubela to score from third. Then with the bases loaded, senior Karmyn Bass hit a two-run double, extending the lead to 6-1.
Senior Megan Kelnar tacked on a run with a sacrifice fly in center to score Bubelaa before senior Sydney Harvey scored on UTSA error.
Junior pitcher Madison Azua shut down the UTSA offense, throwing five innings while allowing just five hits, one earned run, one walk and five strikeouts. Senior pitcher Analisa Soliz closed out the game, throwing two innings with no hits, no runs, one walk and striking out three batters.
Conference Series Preview Texas State continues their road trip, on to South Alabama to face off with the Jaguars.
South Alabama comes into the weekend with a 23-15 overall record and a 7-2 conference record coming off a sweep of James Madison.
South Alabama’s offense averages 3.92 runs per game along with a team batting average of .252. Texas State’s offense averages 4.11 runs per game with a batting average of .274.
On defense, South Alabama has a team ERA of 3.23 while Texas State has a team ERA of 2.77.
First pitch for Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at South Alabama.
