Sheriff’s Office investigating Bulverde school shooting

COMAL COUNTY

A 15-year-old student shot a teacher before taking his own life in neighboring Comal County at the Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde on March 30. The situation was contained quickly, and there is no ongoing threat to the community, according to a statement from the Comal County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the injured teacher remains hospitalized, and that they will not be releasing her identity. The school district will provide more information at “the appropriate time.”

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said the impact of the shooting has reached the local community, noting that the injured teacher is the daughter of a Hays County employee.

“We are living in a time where we are constantly flooded with information, much of it negative, overwhelming, and isolating. It’s more than any one person should have to process alone,” Becerra said. “We can’t solve everything overnight.

But we can do something meaningful, right now. ... Let this be a moment where we choose to lean into each other, not pull apart. Where we make time for one-on-one connection. Where we create spaces that feel safe, supportive, and human.”

As of the Daily Record’s time of press, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting.

Investigators have confirmed the student used a .357 revolver, which was brought to campus from his home. At this time, the motive is still under investigation. However, it is believed the student may have been experiencing academic challenges, including failing several classes, according to CCSO. Authorities are continuing to gather information to better understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Detectives have executed a search warrant at the student’s residence, where several electronic devices were seized. These items are currently undergoing forensic examination in an effort to learn more about the student’s actions and possible motive.

It is too early in the investigation to determine whether any charges will be filed against the firearm’s owner, according to CCSO.

“Our hearts are with everyone impacted, especially that teacher, their family, and our school community,” said Principal Julie Wiley in a statement issued on Facebook on Monday. “Please know we are here to support our students, staff and families during this time. Thank you for your continued support.”
