From phantom dogs to decades-old scandals, Visit San Marcos is turning the city’s most unforgettable legends into must-watch storytelling.
The new video series, dubbed “Legend Has It,” featuring historian Linda Coker and filmed by Joey Chapman, brings local lore to life through short, informative clips.
Sarah Smith, Visit San Marcos Destination Services Marketing Specialist, said “Legend Has It” was created in 2020 as a joint effort between Visit San Marcos and Downtown San Marcos and was a self-guided walking tour of downtown in which informational panels that told local legends were placed in vacant building windows.
“Visit San Marcos decided to utilize the stories told during that project and breathe new life into them with a video series,” Smith said.
At that point, they just needed someone to tell those stories, which is where Coker came in.
Coker has always had an interest in history, likely inspired by her mother, who never missed a historical marker stop on a road trip. She decided to go to university and major in history, and to this day, has never stopped studying the past. That exten
