The Dunbar Heritage Association is proud to announce plans to bring the renowned Black History 101 Mobile Museum to San Marcos as part of its 2026 Juneteenth celebrations. To make this event possible, DHA is seeking community support.
Donated funds will cover the museum’s exhibition costs and logis- tics. The fundraising campaign will run through May 31 or until the goal is met. As of April 2, $2419.71 has been raised toward the goal of $6,500.
Founded and curated by Dr. Khalid El-Hakim, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum features approximately 150 primary-source artifacts that chronicle the history, culture, and lived experiences of African Americans. The museum has traveled to more than 43 states and appeared at more than 1,000 institutions, including public schools, universities, libraries, and cultural centers nationwide.
This year also marks the 100th anniversary of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), founded by Carter G. Woodson. In recognition of this historic milestone, DHA will host the Black History 101 Mobile Museum at the San Marcos Public Library on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., serving as the culminating event of the organization’s Juneteenth festivities.
The DHA is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and promoting cultural heritage. The organization has served the community for over 25 years through educational programming, including its signature annual MLK Walk and Celebration.
With great anticipation, DHA has secured the initiative, aligning it with the organization’s longstanding mission to support education, advocacy, and cultural engagement in the county.
