Bobcats rally in seventh to claim series against South Alabama

The Bobcats rallied to score five runs in the top of the seventh to defeat the South Alabama Jaguars 6-3, to take the conference series.

Texas State improves to 24-16 overall and 6-6 in conference play while South Alabama falls to 25-16 and 8-4 in conference play.

The Jaguars scored first in their first at-bat of the game, scoring on a wild pitch before a sacrifice fly added to their lead, making it a 2-0 game.

After four scoreless innings, the Bobcat offense scored their first run of the game as senior Karmyn Bass hit a sacrifice fly in right field to score senior Keely Williams, making it a 2-1 game.

South Alabama added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, hitting a solo home run as Texas State entered their final at-bat of the game down 3-1 in the top of the seventh.

The Bobcats loaded up the bases to start their final at-bat on a leadoff walk from senior Sami Hood, a single by Williams, then a walk by senior Sydney Harvey.

Redshirt freshman Harley Vestal connected with a two-run RBI single in left field as the Bobcats tied the game at 3-3.

Vestal later advanced to second on a wild pitch that put runners on second and third with one out.

Senior Katrina Zarate cleared the bases with a two-run double in left-center as the Bobcats took their first lead of the game at 5-3.

Senior Aiyana Coleman brought home Zarate with an RBI double of her own, as Texas State entered the bottom of the seventh leading 6-3.

Junior pitcher Madison Azua closed out the game, keeping the Jaguars off the board and sealing the win.

Texas State is back home this week for their midweek game against UTSA. This is the second meeting between the two teams with the Bobcats winning the first game 8-1.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
