A two-day, family- friendly science event aimed at promoting environmental awareness will take place in early May at two popular Hays County venues.
Seasons of Science, an outreach initiative from Hays County Master Naturalists in partnership with Texas State University Department of Biology, will host “Green Guardians,” a free community event focused on environmental stewardship and hands-on learning.
The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at The Shady Llama and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at Roughhouse Brewing.
Organizers say the event is designed to transform familiar community gathering spaces into interactive learning environments, where participants can engage with science-based activities focused on caring for the environment.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities including crafts, games and guided nature experiences. Programming will focus on topics such as Leave No Trace principles, recycling, litter and waste, wildlife awareness and trail use.
Guided nature explorations led by Research Rangers will be offered throughout both days.
The come-and-go format allows participants to attend at their convenience, with activities designed to be accessible for all ages. Organizers also noted that bilingual elements will be incorporated to support broader community engagement.
Adults who complete a short survey during the event may receive a $5 discount on their tab at each venue.
Seasons of Science is an ongoing initiative aimed at making science more accessible by bringing educational programming into everyday community spaces. Additional information about the program can be found at researchrangers. wp.txstate.
