Rattlers battle tough with state-ranked East Central in loss

SMHS SOFTBALL

The Rattlers battled with No. 17-ranked San Antonio East Central as San Marcos fell 4-2 against the Hornets.

San Marcos finishes the season with a 9-21 overall record and a 2-10 district record.

The Hornets got on the board first after hitting a leadoff triple followed by a sacrifice fly as San Marcos trailed 1-0.

East Central tacked on another run in the top of the second, scoring on a leadoff home run to make it a 2-0 lead.

The Hornets scored again in the bottom of the third, hitting an RBI single as the Rattlers found themselves trailing 3-0.

San Marcos put runners on first and second with one out following a walk from Emalyn Martinez and a single by Arianna Flores.

After both runners moved up a base following a passed ball, Maddy Nunez hit a two-run RBI single, making it a onerun game at 3-2.

East Central scored in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly in right as the Rattlers trailed 4-2.

The Hornets looked to do more damage in the bottom of the fifth by loading up the bases with no outs but the Rattlers kept East Central on the bases by getting the next three outs.

San Marcos was unable to score in the next two innings as the Rattlers fell 4-2.
