San Marcos dropped their district road game to New Braunfels Canyon as the Rattlers fell 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
The Rattlers fall to 1810-1 for the season and 6-4 in district play while Canyon improves to 1116-1 and 5-6 in district play. The loss also snapped San Marcos’ eight-game winning streak.
The Cougars struck first in the bottom of the second, scoring on a wild pitch before an RBI single made it a 2-0 lead.
The Rattlers answered back in the top of the third.
After Cole Wiatrek and Nate Velasquez both drew a pair of walks, Juan ‘Tres’ Munos hit a two-run triple, tying the game at 2-2.
Elijah Ramirez later scored Munos at third, hitting a sacrifice fly into deep right as San Marcos took the lead at 3-2.
In the top of the seventh, the Rattlers extended their lead when Cole Wiatrek hit an RBI double to score Miguel Garcia at first, making it a 4-2 game.
Canyon put runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the seventh on a hit by pitch and a double.
A Rattler fielding error allowed both runs to score as Canyon tied the game at 4-4.
San Marcos got the next two outs on a ground out and a fly out but Canyon put runners on the corners.
The Rattlers opted to intentionally walk the next batter to load up the bases and get the force out at any base.
But Canyon was able to draw a bases loaded walk, scoring the game-winning run and escaping with a 5-4 win.
San Marcos is back home Friday night for the final home game of the season as the Rattlers will look to get their win back and clinch a postseason berth against Canyon.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Friday in San Marcos.
