Wimberley senior Paul Gumbert-Mendoza was named the 20252026 Texas High School Coaches Association Class 4A Most Valuable Player following the release of the THSCA Super Elite Teams.
Gumbert-Mendoza led the Texans to the best season in program history, winning a record 36 games.
Wimberley won their first outright district championship since 2018 and made an appearance in the regional finals for just the second time in program history.
Gumbert-Mendoza set the school record for most career points and most career rebounds while also setting the record for most points scored in a single game with 48.
In the regional semifinals, Gumbert-Mendoza became the first Texan player to record a playoff triple-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds and 13 assists.
At the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season, Gumbert- Mendoza led the team in scoring, averaging 21.3 points per game along with 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 3.1 steals, all team highs.
Gumbert-Mendoza is currently signed with St. Edwards University where he will continue his basketball career.
