The Bobcats were swept by the No. 22-ranked Southern Miss Golden Eagles last weekend, as Texas State tumbled out of second place in the Sun Belt Conference standings into a four-way tie for sixth place.
Texas State falls to 25-15 overall and 9-9 in conference play. In the first game of the series, the Golden Eagles scored six runs in the bottom of the third en route to taking the 8-2 win over the Bobcats.
In the second game on Saturday, the Bobcats trailed the Golden Eagles 3-2 going into the bottom of the eighth.
Southern Miss scored three insurance runs, one on a solo home run and the other on a two-run home run to go up 6-2 over the Bobcats.
The Bobcats scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth, but nothing more as Texas State fell 6-3.
In the final game on Sunday, the Bobcats trailed 3-0 after the four innings before making their comeback.
In the top of the fifth, senior Chase Mora connected with a two-run RBI double, cutting the Bobcats’ deficit down to 3-2.
Later in the seventh, sophomore Dawson Park hit an RBI single in left field, tying the game at 3-3.
Southern Miss went up 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth after the solo home run, but Park’s heroics were not over.
Following a one-out single by junior Justin Vossos, Park connected with an RBI double down the left field line, scoring Vossos and tying the game back up at 4-4.
But the Golden Eagles had the last word in the bottom of the tenth, scoring on a Bobcat wild pitch to win the game at 5-4 and complete the sweep.
Texas State looks to regroup for their midweek game at home against the Incarnate Word Cardinals.
It is the 43rd all-time meeting between UIW and Texas State with the Bobcats leading the series 30-12.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Irvine- Rasmussen Ballpark.
