Running back Greg Burrell is no longer with Texas State according to the program and later confirmed by Head Coach G.J. Kinne.

“He’s no longer with us and wish him nothing but the best,” Kinne said. “Excited about the running back group we got and those guys are super talented. They came out with the right mindset today.

“I won’t get too much into it, but the hardest thing for me is how much you care about the kids. That’s the toughest thing for me so, sometimes you have to make tough decisions and that’s definitely not easy A lot of times being a head coach is great on certain days, it’s not one of those days.”

Burrell was booked into the Hays County Jail Thursday, April 16 and charged with Deadly Conduct to Discharge Firearm. Burrell was later released on a cash bond.

Burrell was projected to be the Bobcats’ starting running back after rushing for 671 yards and three touchdowns on 100 carries during the 2025 season. Burrell transferred from UNLV, where during his freshman season, he rushed for 366 yards and three touchdowns for the Rebels.

This is an ongoing story. San Marcos Daily Record will provide updates as they become available.
