Seguin Teacher of the Year Banquet

Each year the Seguin Chamber Education Partnership Committee has the privilege of honoring our local Teachers of the Year from local campuses at a banquet to celebrate the accomplishments of these teachers. If you have never been to a Teacher of the Year Banquet and heard some of the amazing things inside and outside of the classroom that these teachers have accomplished – you are missing out!

This year the committee will honor 24 Teachers at the event that will occur on May 8th at the K.C. Hall in Seguin at 5:30 pm. There are sponsorships and tickets are available and more information can be found on the Chamber website on the Events page.

LEADERSHIP SEGUIN

The 2026 Leadership Seguin Class is approaching the final days of their time as a class. With only one more day of local tours, the completion of their project at the Seguin Little League Fields, and graduation, this class will become Leadership Seguin Alumni. This year during the nine-month program the Team visited city and county services, local industry, the school districts, the colleges and universities, and numerous non-profit organizations. While the leadership participants are immersed in the program, they select, plan, and accomplish a project that makes Seguin better than they found it. This year as I mentioned, the group has selected Seguin Little League Fields as their project. The class will graduate in May and will be back out into our community to continue to do great things.

CHAMBER DATABASE

Last month I mentioned that a year ago we migrated member data from an older database to the new database. Well, this month, on Good Friday we incorporated our last migration of historical data into our system that captures more of the data, such as the “old” member identification number, and the member since data. This is important since we as a Chamber like to brag about our tenured members that we have.

Each year we compile data that we send to several chamber organizations that provide us with benchmarking of other chambers our size, our community demographics, our serving staff size, and many other areas that provide us with a scorecard to compare ourselves to. We just received some benchmark data and the results for our website traffic is greater than we expected. There is a “score” that uses a mathematical formula (please don’t ask me to try to math this!) we can use to evaluate our web presence, as well as how our site steers those looking for information – and the Chamber is doing rather well in this area.

I say this for two reasons; first, if you are looking for a business referral try checking the Chamber website, and second, if you are a Chamber Member, please make sure that your website is correct in the database. You can reach the Chamber website at www.seguinchamber. com.

HELP SEGUIN SHINE

The Help Seguin Shine applications for 2026 grants are open for Seguin groups that are seeking some funding to make Seguin a better place. The program is reimbursable grant funding that a group can propose for a project that will benefit the community, create economic value for the city, and have visibility and impact. These projects should demonstrate community involvement using volunteers and show partnerships between community groups.

Examples of the acceptable projects include: projects that beautify or improve the general attractiveness of the city, enhance Seguin’s parks, enhance seasonal or permanent lighting or decorations, improve city infrastructure or capital improvements, enhance recreation for Seguin residents or visitors, and increase opportunities for tourism, sporting events, competitions, conventions, or seminars.

While this list does not include all of the possibilities that can exist – it is a great list that the selection committee uses to evaluate the proposed projects. These are reimbursement grants, usually in the $250 to $2500 range. The group has one year to complete the project upon funding. For more information you can visit the Chamber website under “Chamber News” or you can call the Chamber at 830-379-6382 and we can send you an application packet. The deadline to submit projects for consideration is June 15, 2026.
