Rio Vista Park closed due to hundreds of unruly teens

Rio Vista Park was closed earlier today due to an unruly crowd of hundreds San Antonio-area high school students participating in senior skip day.

The city of San Marcos chose to close the park after multiple fights and the crowd refusing to disperse.

The San Marcos Police Department estimated at one time that there were several hundred students at the park as part of a senior skip day. Officers responded to multiple fights, and there was at least one instance of assault on a public servant. There were also reports that some individuals in the crowd had guns.

City staff made the decision to close the park for safety, and it was reopened at 5 p.m.
