Texas State fell in their final mid-week game of the season, losing to the Baylor Bears 4-3.
Despite the Bobcats being able to get on base with six hits and nine walks, the Texas State left 10 runners on base.
“You can’t leave 10 runners on base and think that you’re going to win ball games against good ball clubs,” Head Coach Ricci Woodard said.
The Bobcats jumped on Baylor in the bottom of the first inning when senior Keely Williams started the at-bat with a lead-off double.
After advancing to third base on the bunt single by senior Sidney Harvey, senior Karmyn Bass hit a sacrifice fly in left to score Williams and put Texas State up 1-0.
Baylor later tied the game in the top of the third. Following a twoout single in left field, the Bears hit an RBI triple in right field, tying the game at 1-1. Baylor later took the lead on a wild pitch to make it 2-1 before extending the lead on a solo home run in left field.
The Bears then tacked on another run on a Bobcat fielding error, extending the Baylor lead to 4-1.
The Bobcats answered in the bottom of the fourth. After loading the bases following a single by Bass, then a pair of walks by Harvey and senior Aiyana Coleman, junior Katarina Zarate hit a bloop single to score Harvey at third.
Later, freshman Harley Vestal scored Bass from third on a sacrifice fly in left, making it a one-run game at 4-3.
Texas State made one final comeback attempt in the bottom of the seventh after Coleman drew the one-out walk and Zarate connected with a one-out single to put runners on first and second.
Sophomore pinch runner Mel Reeves advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Vestal to put runners on the corners with two outs.
But the Bobcats flew out to end the at-bat as Texas State fell short of their comeback attempt.
Texas State is back home this weekend against Coastal Carolina. First pitch is at 6 p.m. Friday at Bobcat Softball Stadium.
