The Rattlers fell in the final regular season game, losing to the rival Buda Johnson Jaguars 5-3.
San Marcos falls to 1911-1 for the season and 7-5 in district play while Buda Johnson improves to 9-3.
The Jaguars scored first in the bottom of the first, connecting with a threerun home run to take the lead 3-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Rattlers scored their first run of the game when Andrew Wilson hit a fielder’s choice to score Elijah Ramirez from third, cutting the Jaguar lead to 3-1.
Later, Ronaldo Mendez- Soto connected with a two-run RBI single on two outs, tying the game at 3-3.
The Jaguars took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth, hitting a two-run RBI double to go up 5-3.
The Rattlers looked to make their comeback in the top of the seventh but were denied by Johnson as the Jaguars held on to win 5-3.
San Marcos finishes the season with a third-place finish in District 29, advancing to the postseason.
The Rattlers will be the No. 2 seed representing the district in the 6A Division II playoffs while Schertz Clemens will be the No. 1 seed. Buda Johnson will be the No. 1 seed of District 29 in the 6A Division I playoffs while Cibolo Steele Knights will be the No. 2 seed.
San Marcos’ playoff opponent has yet to be determined as both Medina Valley and Eagle Pass, District 30’s Division II qualifiers, have yet to complete their seasons as of press time.
