KZSM: Bringing You Music Everywhere!

Your True Community Radio Station brings you all kinds of music throughout the day, every day, on 104.1 FM and KZSM.org. More than that, we bring live music into the community by sponsoring events.

This spring, we are proud to partner with Roughhouse Brewing to bring you “The Hills Are Alive,” a free concert series, once a month in March, April, May and June, featuring a night of live music in their beer garden at 680 Oakwood Loop. This month’s concert, Saturday, April 25, begins at 7 p.m. with Vanna Black, a female-led trio from Lockhart. They draw inspiration from a blend of genres and scenes — 90s alternative, 70s riff-heavy rock n’ roll, and good old-fashioned punk.

Sour Bridges takes the stage at 8 p.m. with their signature “browngrass,” blend of country, rock and bluegrass featuring a diverse range of instruments including banjo, fiddle and mandolin. Besides a sense of nostalgia, their music brings soulful, emotive harmonies, sprawling arrangements, and a knack for interspersing satire with clever songcraft.

This free concert is family and pet friendly, with food and drink available for purchase. Seating is limited, so bring a blanket or chair. To help manage crowd size, please RSVP via thehillsarealive. eventbrite.com!

Save the date for a different musical journey! Friday, May 15 from 6-10 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1701 Hunter Road, we revisit the carefree sixties with a return of our popular “Sock Hop!” From 7-9 p.m., John Michael and the Retro Cats will immerse you in glorious 50s and 60s rock, with lots of room for dancing! The group plays both original music inspired by the classic rock of the 50s and 60s and hits from the greatest artists of that era, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and of course Elvis.

From 6-7 and 9-10 p. m., we’ll extend the party with our own DJ Alpha (Josh Gomez), host of “The Latin Party Mix” (Thursdays 7-8 p.m.) “I want to create an experience for listeners,” he promises. ”If it is something good, energetic, uplifting, then I want to share that feeling with everyone else.”

To keep your energy up for dancing, there will be a food truck on site and plenty of food and drink available for purchase. We’ll also celebrate the 60s with a costume contest offering cash prizes, a classic car display, a bubble gum blowing contest, and a raffle. Admission for this family-friendly event is only $5 at the door; tickets for food and drink and for the raffle are $1. All proceeds will go to support your True Community Radio Station, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Save the date to enjoy a blast from the past and help keep your True Community Radio Station on the air. Go to KZSM.org for advance admission, food and raffle tickets, or to become a sponsor. You can also support us with an item or items to donate to our raffle; bring them to our studio at 216 North Guadalupe by Friday, May 8.
