‘Black Kings... Celebrated’ awards nominations now open

The stage is set for one of the most anticipated events of the year -- the “Black Kings... Celebrated Annual Awards” Ceremony, honoring outstanding men who have made remarkable contributions to the Hays County community.

The Dunbar Heritage Association Committee have officially opened nominations, inviting the public to recognize the achievements of seven Black Kings who exemplify leadership, integrity and service. From trailblazing entrepreneurs and dedicated educators to community advocates and cultural influencers, the awards aim to spotlight men whose work inspires and uplifts others.

“This ceremony is more than just a celebration,” said Mittie Miller, Vice President of DHA and Chairperson of the event, “It’s about upholding the principles of Kwanzaa~UMOJA (Unity), KUJICHAGULIA (Self-Determination), UJIMA (Collective Work and Responsibility), UJAMAA (Cooperative Economics), NIA(Purpose), and KUUMBA(Faith).”

The nomination process is simple: submit the nominee’s name, a brief biography, and a summary of their achievements by May 31, 2026 to: dhasmtx.com/ black-kings-award-ceremony/.

The winners will be announced at the “Black Kings... Celebrated Annual Awards Ceremony” on Saturday, June 20 at 3:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Public Library, promising an afternoon of inspiration, entertainment, and heartfelt recognition.
