Texas State salvaged their three-game series against the No. 9-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, winning their final game of the series 10-6.

The win improves Texas State’s overall record to 27-17 and 10-11 in conference play.

After losing 6-2 on Friday then 2-1 on Saturday, the Bobcats were desperate for the win and avoiding their second consecutive weekend of being swept.

The Chanticleers got on the board in the bottom of the first, scoring on an RBI single to take the early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, the Bobcat offense, which hadn’t scored more than four runs in the last two weeks, found their spark.

With the bases loaded, junior Jaquae Stewart connected with a grand slam to put the Bobcats up 4-1.

After Coastal scored on an error in the bottom of the third, the Bobcats answered back as sophomore Dawson Park hit a two-run RBI double while facing two outs to extend the lead 6-2.

The Chanticleers refused to go away, scoring in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run RBI, making it a 6-4 game.

Junior Bennett Fryman added on to the Bobcat lead in the top of the sixth, hitting a solo home run in right center. Later in the top of the seventh, junior Justin Vossos hit an RBI single up the middle, making it an 8-4 lead.

The Chanticleers scored two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings as Texas State held on to an 8-6 lead going into the ninth inning.

Stewart and junior Samson Pugh both scored on wild pitches in the top of the ninth, extending the lead to 10-6 as senior Kyle Froehlich came in to close out the side and secure a massive win for the Bobcats.

Texas State is back home this week for the midweek clash against the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders.

The Islanders are 21-21 for the season, coming off a series sweep of the Incarnate Word Cardinals last weekend.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Irvine- Rasmussen Ballpark
