5 dead in airplane crash

CITY OF WIMBERLEY

Hays County officials have confirmed that all five occupants of an aircraft which crashed in the Wimberley area on Thursday night have died. Emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 11:05 p.m. Thursday night following reports of an aircraft down in the Wimberley area.

The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 421C, was confirmed to have crashed with five individuals on board, according to a statement from Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra.

Fire and EMS personnel remained on scene through the early morning hours.

Preliminary information indicates the aircraft was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of impact. Based on current findings, there is no indication of a mid-air collision. A second aircraft traveling in the vicinity landed safely in New Braunfels.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified and will be leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Out of respect for the families involved, the identities of those on board are not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
