SAN MARCOS ACADEMY
The third annual Academy Nights Gala at San Marcos Academy raised a record-breaking $353,000 in support of student programs and future campus initiatives.
Held at Embassy Suites in San Marcos, the evening welcomed more than 435 guests, including families, faculty, alumni, and community partners, for a celebration marked by generosity, fellowship and a shared commitment to the mission of the Academy. Guests dined on a gourmet dinner, participated in both silent and live auctions, and later danced the night away to the high-energy sounds of SkyRocket — creating an evening that was as joyful as it was impactful.
A defining moment of the evening was the powerful “Paddles Up” initiative, which raised $86,000 to support the physical health and development of all students. Preceding the paddle raise was an inspirational message from Carson Tinker, San Marcos Academy’s new Athletic Director, who shared how athletics shape character, build resilience and point students toward a greater purpose rooted in faith. These funds will directly contribute to the creation of a new pre-K playground, the purchase of physical education equipment and key athletics equipment and facility renovations — ensuring that students at every age have opportunities to grow, compete and build lifelong habits of wellness.
This effort was significantly strengthened by a $25,000 matching gift from Johnny and Nathali Weisman of Hunter Industries, along with a $20,000 gift from Mr. Walter Eeds, San Marcos Academy Class of 1963, inspiring others in the room to give boldly.
Grounded in the Academy’s Christ-centered mission, the evening reflected the belief that growth extends far beyond the classroom. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or on the playground, San Marcos Academy is committed to developing students who live out their faith through character, leadership and service.
“This evening was a powerful reminder of what makes our Academy family so special,” said Gala Co-Chairs Michelle Harper, Calli Swindle and Sarah Whitley. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity and faithfulness of this community. The impact of these gifts will be felt in the lives of our students for years to come.”
Dr. Brian Guenther, President of San Marcos Academy, shared a vision for the future, stating, “At San Marcos Academy, we are building more than programs and facilities— we are building a foundation rooted in Christ that prepares our students to face life’s challenges with courage, conviction, and faith. These investments ensure that our students are not only equipped for success, but grounded in truth and ready to lead lives of purpose.”
Funds raised from the Academy Nights Gala will support initiatives that strengthen San Marcos Academy’s commitment to developing students in faith, character, scholarship, and leadership. These investments align with the Academy’s long-term vision to provide transformative educational experiences grounded in Christian values — preparing students not only for college and career, but for lives of meaningful impact.
The date for the 2027 Academy Nights gala has already been set for April 24, 2027. For more information about attending next year’s gala and supporting San Marcos Academy, please visit smabears. org or email harpermichelle@ smabears.org.
