KZSM: Let’s Twist Again at the Sock Hop Friday!

Rock your way back into the 50s and 60s this Friday, May 15, 6-10 p.m. at the VFW Hall, 1701 Hunter Road at our second annual KZSM Sock Hop. For a modest $5 donation, John Michael and the Retro Cats will take you back to the roots of rock, with plenty of room for dancing! They play both original music inspired by the classic rock of the 50s and 60s and hits from the greatest artists of that era, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, and of course Elvis.

In addition to their live set from 7-9 p.m., our own DJ Alpha (Josh Gomez), host of “The Latin Party Mix” (Thursdays 7-8 p.m.) will extend the party from 6-7 and 9-10 p. m. For the Sock Hop, he is crafting a one-of-akind set inspired by the golden age of rock & roll, featuring timeless classics that capture the fun, nostalgia, and spirit of the era.

In addition to plenty of food and drink available for purchase, the KZSM Sock Hop celebrates the past with cash prizes for the best dressed 50s/60s cat and chick, so turn up your collar and dig out that poodle skirt! The event also features a bubble blowing contest and a classic car display (arrive in your vintage ride and get in free).

And you can take a chance on one or more of dozens of raffle items, including a vintage Ethan Allen rocking chair, an antique piano stool, décor items, wine, gift cards from local businesses, and much more!

Admission for this family- friendly event is only $5 at the door; tickets for food and drink and for the raffle are $1. All proceeds will go to support your True Community Radio Station, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit.

Sheri Swartz, KZSM Music Awards Songwriter of the Year for 2025, has harnessed her amazing energy and creativity to make the Sock Hop a night to remember. For her, it’s a way of giving back to the station that has nurtured her, John Michael, and the other artists she has promoted over the years.

“Rob Roark at KZSM opened his ‘Revolving Door’ to me in 2024, and that opened a revolving door in my heart for this station,” she reflects. “It is my honor to support those who support live music, artists and songwriters like me.”

Rock out with us Friday, and add your support!
