SAN MARCOS POLICE DEPARTMENT
The San Marcos Police Department is inviting residents to join the next installment of its Community Conversations on Tuesday, May 12, at Crockett Elementary School.
The meetings are part of a broader effort to strengthen relationships between residents, police officers, and city staff by creating space for honest conversations about neighborhood concerns, community safety, and quality-of-life issues.
Unlike a traditional town hall meeting, Community Conversations are designed to be informal, localized to specific neighborhoods, and focused on listening. Each month, the meetings rotate to a different area of the city so discussions can center on the specific needs and experiences of the surrounding neighborhoods.
The May meeting will focus on Sector 3, which includes Forest Hills, Hughson Heights, Sessom Creek, Sierra Circle, Spring Lake Hills and Tanglewood.
Residents will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from the San Marcos Police Department as well as other city departments and community partners involved in neighborhood services and problem- solving efforts. Conversations may include topics like traffic safety, crime prevention, code concerns, youth outreach, mental health resources, and other issues identified by neighbors themselves.
Police Chief Stan Standridge said the goal is simple: build stronger partnerships before problems become crises.
“People who live in these neighborhoods understand their challenges better than anyone,” Standridge said. “We want these meetings to be a place where residents can talk directly with us, share concerns, ask questions, and work with us on solutions that actually make sense for their neighborhood.”
The meetings are part of a long-term strategy outlined in the department’s strategic plan, which emphasizes collaboration between law enforcement, city departments, neighborhood organizations, and residents.
The city is divided into multiple sectors, with meetings scheduled throughout the year to ensure conversations stay neighborhood-focused and accessible. Residents can view the full meeting schedule and sector map online to find the meeting connected to their area.
