Another candidate for San Marcos City Council Place 1 has emerged.
Maxfield Baker, a current commissioner on the city’s planning and zoning commission, announced his intention to run for council place 1.
“As a current renter and Planning and Zoning Commissioner, I see how our history is being erased, our housing is becoming unaffordable, and our job options are tied to big tax incentives,” Baker said in a statement. “I’m running for City Council Place 1 since I’m willing to do the research, ask the tough questions, and echo the frustrations of a city held captive by our own success.”
Baker has lived in San Marcos since 2007 and is a Texas State alumnus. He is running on a platform of affordable housing and living-wage jobs that can be created in the city, while protecting San Marcos’ natural and historical beauty.”
“I want to guide the City of San Marcos to more transparent conversations with our community, safe and affordable housing solutions, and opportunities for high-quality local jobs,” Baker said. “It’s important to lead by example, and we should all do our part to clean up, find alternative modes of transportation, and shop local. I believe the City itself has a big role in creating this culture change to make San Marcos an even better place to live.”
Baker will join a race against Mark Gleason, current vice-chair of the San Marcos Planning and Zoning Commission, who announced his intention to run for council place 1 on Saturday.
