Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative will commemorate its 80th anniversary with birthday celebrations at its five-member service centers in Brenham, Giddings, Lockhart, Manor and Bastrop. The festivities will include refreshments, a display of vintage electric appliances and the opportunity to visit and have photos taken with a Bluebonnet lineman.
“We are thrilled to celebrate our 80th anniversary this year, and very excited to host our members and communities we serve at our member service centers,” said Matt Bentke, Bluebonnet’s general manager. “We have wonderful events planned and hope our members can come by one of our member service centers to visit, enjoy refreshments, check out the appliances on display and meet one of our great lineman.”
The birthday celebrations will kick off at Bluebonnet’s Brenham Member Service Center, Tuesday, July 30; followed by Giddings, Thursday, Aug. 1; Lockhart, Monday, Aug. 5; Manor, Wednesday, Aug. 7; and Bastrop, Friday, Aug. 9. The events will be from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
Bluebonnet’s official anniversary is Saturday, Aug. 3. That date marks the first meeting of the cooperative’s inaugural board of directors.
Members will have the opportunity to meet a lineman from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at each event. The lineman will be fully outfitted in the gear he wears to safely do his job. He will answer questions and have his photo taken with attendees. Vintage household appliances, dating back to the 1940s when electricity forever changed the lives of rural Central Texans, will also be on display.
