SMPD arrests man for deadly conduct

San Marcos Police arrested a man Thursday night after responding to a report of shots fired in the area of Crest Drive.

Witnesses also reported gunshots in the area of Hillcrest and Craddock Ave around 11:09 p.m. Thursday. A white passenger car fired rounds at an older BMW model in the cul-de-sac of Crest Drive, according to witnesses. Officers caught up with the car and conducted a high-risk stop. The driver of the white car called SMPD to report that he was being followed and didn’t know why before being stopped, SMPD said.

The driver and sole occupant of the car was identified as Dillon Snethkamp, 20, and admitted to having a handgun in his vehicle, officials said. Snethkamp claimed that he was “just leaving a friend’s residence,” but changed his account after he was confronted with what witnesses saw.

According to SMPD, Snethkamp admitted that he contacted another male through social media and arranged a meeting to purchase marijuana. The unidentified man pulled out a handgun during the purchase and robbed Snethkamp of his money.

The male returned to his BMW and began to drive away. Snethkamp followed the man and as he made a U-turn at end of Crest Drive, Snethkamp fired at least two shots and the male’s vehicle and they passed each other, officers said.

Snethkamp was arrested and charged with Deadly Conduct, Possession Of Controlled Substance and Unauthorized Carry-Weapon after an investigation. The BMW driver’s whereabouts are unknown and it is unclear if there are any gunshot victims, SMPD said.

Snethkamp is currently being held in jail with a $25,000 bond.
