San Marcos resident Lisa Marie Coppoletta has announced her intention to run for City Council Place 2.

Coppoletta, who previously served on the city’s art commission and neighborhood commission, has been involved in the city for 30 years. Coppoletta received her bachelor’s and master’s in communication studies from then-Southwest Texas State University. In a press release, Coppoletta said her background in communications will help her if elected.

“With a background in Communication it will be easy for me to improve dialogue between city hall, our citizens, and our business community,” Coppoletta said. “Reactive solutions have too long dominated our Council and created turmoil. I choose to take a proactive stance on problem solving … The rules that are in place for due process need to be followed by Council members so all stakeholders are on an equal playing field.

“The current communication situation between city hall, the neighborhoods, and the business community often creates division vs community building on common goals.”

Coppoletta also said construction in the city is making it difficult to navigate through San Marcos, and believes the City should fast track its Historical Resources Survey.

“The city needs to have more open communication and finish what they start and deliver what they promise,” She said.

Coppoletta will face off against incumbent Saul Gonzales and Devin Barrett — a current member of the City’s Human Services Advisory Board. Coppoletta ran for City Council Place 2 in 2016 but didn’t garner enough votes for a run-off election between Gonzales and Shane Scott.
