Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos (Centro) is partnering with the Continuing Education division at Austin Community College to begin delivering education and training opportunities to the San Marcos community. The Centro courses will initially include basic education classes in areas such as English language and computer skills, as well as HVAC, welding and other skilled trade areas.
“The training that we will bring to San Marcos through ACC will enable our community to grow both personally and professionally,” said Centro Executive Director Dr. Ricardo Espinoza. “With this partnership, ACC will begin offering classes in Basic English, introductory computer skills, and also relevant trades training that will enable our residents to significantly increase their earning potential and improve their lives.”
ACC’s Continuing Education division has been working in the Central Texas community for several years to offer a range of courses that are targeted to the needs and desires of the community.
“Our partnership with Centro is a long-term investment. The training programs offered at Centro will impact the entire San Marcos community,” said Terra Garcia, Community Pathways Program (CPP) Coordinator at ACC. “Our classes will be designed around the needs of the students and offered at times that work best for them.”
“We are looking forward to working with Centro to bring the college to this community,” said Virginia Garza, ACC CPP Communications Specialist. “This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with and serve the San Marcos community and we are grateful to Centro for the partnership.”
The ACC Community Pathways Program has connected with over 3000 community members since its inception in the Fall of 2016, and has delivered training to nearly 2000 students through 175 different courses across three dozen locations in Central Texas.
“Through this partnership, Centro will truly become a hub of educational opportunity for those in the San Marcos community that are not going to college today,” said Dr. Espinoza. “We are excited to introduce ACC to our community and help our citizens take the next step in their educational journey.”
