Bears beat TMI-Episcopal in home opener

San Marcos Academy (2-0) opened pounded perennial rival San Antonio TMI-Episcopal (1-1), 33-17, in the Bears' first home game of the season on Friday.

Senior quarterback Bryce Patterson connected with senior wide receiver Zach Whitaker for SMA's first score of the night. The team's defense also held strong, holding the visitors to 10 points until the last play of the game, when the Panthers found the end zone as time ran out.

The game also served as the Bears' Hometown Heroes night, as the school recognized first responders, military personnel and veterans.

SMA will return to the road next week, travelling to Temple Central Texas Christian (1-1) to face the Lions on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
