A 9/11 remembrance ceremony to commemorate the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks will be held on Wednesday.
The City of San Marcos will host the event at City Hall — 630 East Hopkins Street — at 8:45 a.m.
Assistant City Manager Stephanie Reyes will begin the program with a welcome. The San Marcos Fire Department Honor Guard will follow by raising the flag that flew over City Hall on the morning of 9/11.
The Pledge of Allegiance will be read after the flag is raised, Tammy Strakos will perform a rendition of the National Anthem, and Mayor Jane Hughson will give a presentation of a city proclamation naming Sept. 11, 2019 as “9-11 Remembrance Day in San Marcos.”
The historic fire bell in front of City Hall will then be tolled in honor of the first responders who perished on Sept. 11, followed by a moment of silent reflection and music by the San Marcos Fire Department Bagpipers.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony and to place flowers on the flower memorial following the program.
