Council to consider appointment of Interim Police Chief

Council to consider appointment of Interim Police Chief

San Marcos City Council will consider a number of items at their meeting this week.

Council will consider the appointment of Bob Klett as the interim chief and head of the San Marcos Police Department. Klett’s appointment follows City Manager Bert Lubmreras’ restructuring of the city, in which Police Chief Chase Stapp was moved to interim director of public safety, and Klett was appointed as interim chief effective Sept. 3, contingent upon Council’s confirmation.

In other business, council will consider approval of a Public Transit System Interlocal Agreement with the Capital Area Rural Transportation System (CARTS) for services in San Marcos urbanized areas. The city will fund approximately $650,000 for the agreement.

Likewise, council will consider approval of Ordinance 2019-25, on the second of two readings, which would adopt a budget in the amount of $239,058,970.

Council will also vote to adopt the proposed tax rate for the 2019 Tax Year at 61.39 cents on each $100 of taxable value of real property that is not exempt from taxation.

Council will vote on Ordinance 2019-30, which will repeal code that pertained to the regulation of dogs in an outdoor dining area of a food service establishment. The current code — section 18.120 states that a food establishment may apply for a dining with dogs variance waiving the prohibition against dogs at a food establishment as permitted by local and state law. The repeal is taking place because Texas Health and Safety Code section 437.025 now allows restaurant customers to bring dogs into outdoor dining areas under certain specified conditions.

The council will also consider the appointment of a San Marcos Criminal Justice Committee Member to serve on the Hays County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee.

Additionally, council will hold a discussion regarding the Belvin Street sidewalk installation between Bishop and Dixon Streets and the Sidewalk Gap Program.

The council will then head into executive session to discuss the duties and responsibilities of the City Manager — Bert Lumbreras.

Tuesday’s meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at 630 E. Hopkins St.
