Samuel G. Gomez

Samuel went peacefully to be with the Lord on September 16, 2019. He was born on August 8, 1954 to the late Bruno Gomez and his wife Lydia. Samuel lived his life here in San Marcos and graduated from SMHS.

Sam worked for Hays County Road Department for 23 years, where he received many awards and plaques for his dedication to the county. He was involved with the San Marcos community and his passion was to help those less fortunate. While working he met and became life long friends with many people who also had the same passion; one being Ralph Gonzalez. Together, along with two others, they started Nosotros La Gente. They would raise money for children who needed simple everyday necessities for home and school. He was a member of Southside Community Center, volunteering for numerous events that were held here in San Marcos. His true passion was with Los Hombres Metodistas. Samuel had a passion and love for Jesus Christ, our savior. He gave diligently to El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church. He gave his time during vacation bible school, he shuttled members of the church to many district meetings, he held bible study on Wednesday nights and supervised during fundraisers such as: walk-a-thons, fish frys, and plate sales. Samuel also helped many friends raise money when they ran for office. His generosity and his love will truly be missed by many, especially his sister, Tabby De La Cruz.

Samuel was married to the late, Petra Alvarado Gomez for 21 years. He is survived by his brothers Bruno Gomez, Benjamin Gomez, Abel Gomez and wife Armida, loving sister Tabby De La Cruz and husband Alex. He also leaves behind nephews Rene De La Cruz, wife Trista and Adam Gomez, nieces Evelyn Urbizu and husband Eddie, Rose DePena and husband Alberto, Anne-Marie Leak and husband Terrance, great nieces and nephews Edward Urbizu, Elijah Urbizu, Alyssa De La Cruz and Antonio De La Cruz.

The De La Cruz and Gomez family would like to give a special thank you to his cousin, Dr. Cynthia Gonzales and her husband Bill Guajardo for their loving support and time they spent with Sam.

Services to be held on Saturday, 9/21/19 at 2pm at El Buen Pastor, UMC, 209 E. Grove St., San Marcos, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to El Buen Pastor UMC.
