Dear Editor,

On Thursday, Sept. 5, the Daily Record headline read “shuffling occurs at City Manager’s office.”

With key employee’s now leaving or have left/retired like our assistant City Manager Collete Jamison and Code Compliance Director Jeff Caldwell left on Sept. 3rd. According to the human resource dept the City now has more than 730 employees employed by us, the City of San Marcos.  It’s no wonder to me that we have a daily traffic problem.

I attended the Four Rivers Candidate Forum on September 4th at the Rec Hall which was well attended.  We had the opportunity to meet and hear the candidates running for City Council running Place 1 was the incumbent Saul Gonzales, Lisa Marie Coppoletta and Devin Barrett; in Place 2 is Maxfield Baker and Mark Gleason.

My takeaway from what the only incumbent in this race told us was that it’s not his place to tell the City Manager how to run the City, which I believe is a true statement. On the other hand, Lisa Marie Coppoletta pulled herself as a candidate running for Place 2 faraway from Saul Gonzalez and Devin Barrett and made herself very clear on her position about the City Manager… as well.

Place 2 candidates Maxfield Baker and Mark Gleason gave good discussion on issues they were asked questions about, too.

Several more candidate forums are coming with The League of Women Voters and CONA 3rd Monday in October at the San Marcos Activity Center.

Let your VOTE be counted - this time - November 5th or vote early!
