4th Annual Space Settlement Symposium begins Friday

The Department of Philosophy at Texas State University will host the 4th Annual Space Settlement Symposium, “Becoming Homo Ex-Terra: Living in Space Through Adaptation or Bioengineering,” on Friday.

The event is free and open to the public. The Symposium takes place from 3-5 p.m. in the  Alkek Library Teaching Theatre.

As humans continuously expand and innovate technology, new information on life beyond earth and the ability to survive has ignited the speech of the Space Settlement Symposium’s discussion this year. The discussion will include research from NASA and examine the influence of space exploration and how humans may adapt to new discoveries.

This year’s speakers include:

  • Scott Solomon, associate teaching professor at Rice University and author of “Future Humans” will speak on “Adapting to Life Beyond Earth”
  • Dr. Jennifer Fogarty, NASA Human Research Program, will speak on “Enabling Human Health and Performance During Space Exploration”
  • Bob McLean, Texas State University System Regent’s Professor and author of “Microbial Survival Mechanisms of Relevance to Panspermia” will speak on “Unseen Life and its Influences on Space Exploration.”
