A Lockhart Police Department officer has been arrested for theft of a controlled substance from a school clinic.
Chad Corbitt, a School Resource Officer assigned to Lockhart Junior High School, was arrested Friday after medication locked in a nurse’s office disappeared over the weekend, according to Lockhart Independent School District.
Officials say the school district partners with the police department for safety and security support at the junior high and Lockhart High School.
“I am grateful for our staff who, by following the processes we have in place, was able to discover the concern quickly and report it,” Superintendent Mark Estrada said in a press release. “We are grateful to LPD for their swift response and assistance in the investigation and assigning a new officer to the junior high school immediately.”
Following the arrest of Corbitt, a new officer has been assigned to the school resource officer role.
No further details are available due to the ongoing legal matter.
