County to take possible action on mental health grant

Hays County could accept a grant award for a mental health crisis intervention project this week.

The Hays County Commissioners Court will discuss and take possible action to accept a $62,304 grant from the Office of the Governor Criminal Justice Division for a Hays County Mental Health Crisis Intervention project.

On Feb. 26, Commissioners authorized the submission of the grant application, which will provide funding for a certified mental health professional position for the Sheriff’s Office that would assess and treat those in the field who are in immediate crisis.

In other business, commissioners will vote to authorize the Historical Commission to use $7,247.04 in donated funds to restore a historic water fountain located outside of the Hays County Courthouse.

Additionally, commissioners will hear a presentation on El Rancho Cima, which was formerly known as the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scout Ranch.

According to the Wimberley View, there is the possibility that the ranch could become a county-owned natural area and park with more than a mile of riverfront.

The Commissioners Court will take possible action to adopt a resolution supporting the  recognition of the former Alba Ranch with an Undertold Historical Marker from the Texas Historical Commission. According to the resolution, the former Alba Ranch was “the home of one of the earliest established Hispanic families in Dripping Springs” and now serves as a wedding venue.

Commissioners will vote to adopt a proclamation recognizing the 90th birthday of the Moon-McGehee Chapters of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. In addition, the court will vote to adopt a proclamation declaring Oct. 19 as White Cane Day.

The Hays County Commissioners Court meets Tuesdays on the third floor of the Hays County Historic Courthouse at 9 a.m.
