Sacred Springs Powwow celebrates culture over weekend

The Sacred Springs Powwow filled the lawn of the Meadows Center with native dancers Oct. 19 and 20. The Indigenous Cultures Institute puts on the annual event, which brings a crowd to celebrate and learn more about native culture. Daily Record photos by Madison Simmons

Alberto Velazquez, 15, dances for a crowd at the The Sacred Springs Powwow on Saturday. He has danced since "before he could completely walk," an aunt said. He represented the Chickasaw nation of Oklahoma.

Chayton Hoskins, 14, dances alongside his brother, not pictured, representing the Cheyenne and Kiowa nations. Hoskins has danced since he was 2.
