San Marcos Assistant City Manager Steve Parker has been selected as Seguin’s new city manager.
The City of Seguin announced Parker’s selection in a press release Thursday. Parker was selected as Seguin’s next top administrator after a five-month search process that had nearly 40 applicants.
“After reviewing approximately 40 applicants for the job, Steve Parker immediately rose to the top,” Seguin Mayor Don Keil said in a statement. “Along with his proven expertise in managing all aspects of city management, he has an enthusiasm and a personality that will go well with the rapid growth and development of our city.
“We received a literal stack of positive letters of recommendation from city officials and citizens of San Marcos, and most of them said they would be very sad to see him go. He is from this area, so he firmly understands our local culture and attitudes. I and the city council are excited to welcome Steve to Seguin, and know the city will be in good hands as we enter a new era together.”
Seguin’s search for its new city manager came after the retirement of Doug Faseler. In his new role, Parker will be responsible for executing the policies and objectives of Seguin’s city council. He will directly report to the council, oversee the daily operations of the city and manage all city departments and staff operations.
“I am honored to be selected to serve as City Manager of Seguin and look forward to joining their amazing team,” Parker said in a statement. “Together, with the dedicated staff and proud community, we will focus on core services and economic development to continue to make Seguin a great place to live, work, prosper and visit. I look forward to creating something special here, and my family and I are excited to call Seguin our new home.”
Parker received his bachelor of business administration in accounting from Texas State University. He’s worked for the City of San Marcos for 16 years and has been in his current role since 2012. Before he was an assistant city manager for San Marcos, he was the city’s assistant director of finance and was promoted to director of finance in 2008.
San Marcos City Manager Bert Lumbreras said it’s bittersweet to see Parker move on.
“When you have exceptional people on your executive team, it’s rewarding and bittersweet to see them move forward in their career,” Lumbreras said in a statement. “Steve has been an integral part of the success of San Marcos and he will continue to provide his leadership, insight and depth of experience as he leads his team in Seguin. We’re excited to be able to continue to work with him on regional initiatives.”
The Seguin City Council will vote to approve Parker as the city’s new city manager at its next meeting on Tuesday. If approved, Parker will begin his new role on Jan. 5, 2020.
