Elwanda  “Jeannie” Rexroat

Graveside Services for Elwanda  “Jeannie” Rexroat, 72, of Gonzales will be at 3 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2019 at McNeil Cemetery in Luling, Texas.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, October 31,  2019 at Thomason Funeral Home in San Marcos, Texas.

Jeannie died early Sunday morning, October 27th at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels after an illness.

Jeannie Nickel Rexroat was born July 25, 1947 in Donna, Texas to James and Doris Nickel. She grew up on a ranch near Luling. She married Pleasant “Ped” Rexroat on September 27, 1974 in Lubbock, Texas.

Jeannie and Ped lived in Lawton, Ok and Germany before moving to San Marcos in 1994. Jeannie managed to PX while in Germany. While in Lawton she worked at Fort Sill as an Accounts Receivable Clerk for the PX on base. Jeannie served as a Correctional Officer for Hays County before retiring in 2008. The couple then moved to Gonzales in 2018.

Jeannie loved shopping and watching QVC with her daughter who she called “her personnel QVC rep.” When her sister-in-law from Lubbock was down for the weekend you could find the three of them on a all day shopping spree with the guys back home patiently waiting for supper. When not shopping, you could find her “EJ” and Ped on a road trip to the casinos to find the “lucky slot machine.” Jeannie had a green thumb when it came to growing tomatoes. She would save the first one to share with her son in law whom called her “Mudder.” She had a great love for Hummingbirds and would always have a flock  of them each year to feed. After moving to the ranch in Gonzales she waited patiently for baby calves to be born so she could find a unique name for each of them. She loved visiting with her family and friends.

Jeannie is survived by her husband Ped Rexroat; her daughter Brenda Hendershot Schneider and husband Mike Schneider all of Gonzales; two brothers, Charlie McCarley of Seguin, and Jim and Debbie McCarley of Lubbock; a sister-in-law and husband, Nancy and John Rigg of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be under the direction of Thomason Funeral Home of San Marcos.  For more information, visit Thomason Funeral Home's website.  512- 396-2300.
