Hutch White named Special Teams Player of the Week

Hutch White named Special Teams Player of the Week

A historic performance from senior wide receiver Hutch White led to him becoming the first Texas State football player to receive a Sun Belt weekly honor this season.

White was awarded the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week plaudit Monday. The Kerrville native became the team’s starting kick returner last Saturday in a 30-28 win over South Alabama (1-8, 0-5 conference) inside Bobcat Stadium, replacing redshirt freshman Jah’Marae Sheread, who was sidelined with an injury.

White ran back two kickoffs for a combined 62 yards, including a career-best 40-yard return. Texas State scored on the ensuing drives after both returns. The senior also snagged 10 receptions for 165 yards — the most of any Bobcat pass-catcher since the school moved to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2013. White’s 234 all-purpose yards were the second-most by any player in the conference this season.

The Bobcats (3-6, 2-3) play in their last home game of the season this Saturday, going up against Troy (4-5, 2-3) at 2 p.m.
