The San Marcos Police Department’s Blue Santa Campaign is underway.
SMPD and the San Marcos Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association are accepting toy donations and volunteers to gift-wrap for its Blue Santa Campaign. The first gift-wrapping opportunity took place on Tuesday with another scheduled for Dec. 10.
The Blue Santa program was established in 1972 and has provided toys to local children who might not otherwise have gifts for the holidays.
Each year, between 70 and 130 volunteers attend SMPD’s Blue Santa gift-wrapping events. Each event is a good opportunity to celebrate holiday togetherness with friends, neighbors, local businesses and organizations.
The San Marcos Blue Santa gift-wrapping location is at 750 Barnes Drive, Suite 100 (between Target and JC Penney). Volunteers are needed to wrap and package toys on the following dates with toys being distributed on Dec. 21: Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 6-8 p.m, Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m.
SMPD is accepting monetary and toy donations for the Blue Santa program. Donations may be dropped off at the San Marcos Police Department, 2300 Interstate 35 South. Checks should be made out to SMCPAAA for Blue Santa. Only new, unused toys will be accepted. No stuffed animals will be accepted.
